Krav Maga is for people who want to learn and train in no-nonsense self-defence
All students are important and none more than the other. There is something for everyone and all will be guided and challenged at their own level. Instructors and students encourage each other to be the best they can be. For many, Krav Maga will be life changing!
Krav Maga, 'contact combat', originated in Eastern Europe around World War Il, in Czechoslovakia, where antisemitism endangered the lives of the Jewish population. It was founded by "Imi" Lichtenfeld, a Hungarian-born fighter, who led a team of wrestlers and boxers to protect the Jews from the Nazi regime. Litchtenfeld understood the difference between competition and street fighting and recognized that traditional fighting was insufficient. Thus began the evolution of martial arts practice, with the addition of elements of judo, aikido, and karate, into the clinically designed self-defense method, Krav Maga.
You don't have to be fit to begin training, many participants lack general fitness when they start training. Regular Krav Maga training will dramatically improve your fitness. Initially, people are encouraged to train at their own level but as their fitness improves will be able to push themselves more.
From the beginning you will be welcomed and encouraged as you learn the basics of stance, striking, techniques for falling, and defenses against common attacks. Gradually you will be be able to perform under stress and gain awareness and prevention skills that will aid in avoiding violent confrontations. Classes are designed to be fun but challenging.
Wear workout clothes that you find comfortable. Bring non marking sports shoes for in the gym and are also suitable for outdoor training. A mouth guard is recommended but not a requirement.
This depends on numbers and the facility. Please contact Shaun by email or phone 021723539 to discuss or to inquire about running a course for a group.
